Introduction to IMPETUS Machine

The IMPETUS device, a flagship product of 4a Engineering, is a desktop-level application system capable of performing material test data calibration and automatically generating material cards (in collaboration with VALIMAT material card calibration software) within the CAE or material department office environment:

IMPETUS High-Efficiency Dynamic Testing Equipment for Materials

— Tensile, shear, punch, compression, 3-point bending tests, or component-level impact tests on samples

— For foam, plastics (thermoplastic, fiber-reinforced (SFRT&LFRT)), carbon fiber composites, some metals, etc.

The basic units of IMPETUS include:

  • An instrumented simple pendulum with an optimized oscillating arm (up to 50J) made of CFRP, aluminum, and steel;
  • An electromagnetic spring-loaded single-disc brake used for setting and releasing the descent position (test speed);
  • T-slot plate used for securing a single bracket;
  • A data acquisition system with a total sampling rate of 1MHz;
  • A 50g acceleration sensor and an incremental rotary transmitter (with a resolution of 320,000 points per rotation);

IMPETUS Data Description

IMPETUS Configuration

The IMPETUS device is available in basic, standard, and professional versions, with differences in the number of material sample tests included, as shown in the figure below:

Sample test

Three-point bending test of sample:

Punching test:

Compression test:

Bending test:

Sample Temperature Control Box:

The temperature of the material sample can be controlled, with a controllable range of -40°C to +90°C. The adjustment speed is fast, and the set temperature can be reached within 10-15 seconds.

High-precision comparison of sample testing

Compared to traditional dynamic tensile testing machines, the following test results are for dynamic tensile testing of ordinary plastics (a comparison between 4a IMPETUS and ZWICK testing equipment, with red representing ZWICK and blue representing IMPETUS)

Dynamic tensile test:

High-speed camera parameter specifications

The high-speed camera provided needs to be purchased separately.
